The Eclats d’Email Jazz Edition Festival has always wanted to introduce inspired and established artists already recognized in their career, but not yet necessarily well-known on the French stages. Opening our Edition with Justina Lee Brown will simply be pure bliss, a very intense moment of sharing and the signal for a 20th Edition that we wished to be the deepest and the best moving in what music can offer.

A singer, a songwriter and composer, born and bred in Africa before settling in Switzerland, her music is the vibrant echo of her African roots in Nigeria. Inspired by such artists as Myriam Makeba, Anita Baker or Etta James, she moves from blues to soul music through rock and funk with a brilliant voice, unique and powerful and a charisma that hits the bull’s-eye every single time.

The songs on her latest album, “Black and White Feeling” refer to a part of her personal biography, a vivid testimony of her life full of challenges and achievements. Her development as an artist has been profoundly influenced by the numerous cultures she interacted with, which has made her a citizen of the world and an outstanding artist. As a composer, she has a natural and intuitive approach of writing, which allows her, through her texts, to create an atmosphere and a climate that resonate strongly with the audience. When Justina Lee Brown gets on stage, she gives herself totally, inhabited by spirits that leave her once the concert is over. “The stage is my real home”. “Today, I am neither a Nigerian nor a Swiss, I am just a nomad.”

Prizewinner of the “Women in Entertainment Award” as African artist, of the “Swiss Blues Challenge”, finalist at the “International Blues Challenge”, Justina Lee Brown has recently released the track “Billiki”, a heartbreaking echo to the work of her JLB Care Foundation which fights against child abuse in Nigeria.
