SARAVAH by Pierre Barouh

Saravah is not a documentary, but a document.
Indeed, Saravah is not a didactic film about the history of Brazilian music in the 20th century, but the historical film in which all the Brazilian stars of the future are approached with simplicity by Pierre Barouh. And it is because Pierre Barouh is not a filmmaker but the witnessing participant in this encounter—an encounter between the old and the new world—that his film becomes an apology for reality, an artistic and poetic reality…
Baden Powell singing “Saravah” with Pierre Barouh, a very young Maria Bethânia already a diva, Marcia, Paulinho da Viola, Pixinguinha in the street that bears his name—each of these moments is one of truth and reveals Pierre Barouh’s great gift: that of a bridge-builder between cultures and emotions, giving us the impression that we have shared these moments of music and spirit in the intimacy of these living legends. The film’s imperfections are just as many nuggets of authenticity, Rohmer-like stories in which the viewer is free to feel whatever they feel, lulled into the contemplative pleasure of a historical Brazil that makes everyone nostalgic for never having known it.” Patrick Frémeaux.
A cult film, re-released in cinemas in 2024 in a restored version with French subtitles.

THE NEW HENRI SELMER JAZZ GUITAR “BEHIND THE SCENES OF ITS DESIGN”

Exclusive access to the original tools carefully preserved by MuPop – the Museum of Popular Music in Montluçon – and to Django Reinhardt’s legendary SELMER guitar, kept at the Museum of Music at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, enabled luthiers Gérald Alonso and Fabian Le Dosseur – the project’s technical directors – to carry out meticulous reconstruction work based on an in-depth study of the historic models.
Their quest for precision made it possible to rediscover the wood assembly secrets that made these guitars so successful, while also modernising them. Remaining faithful to their sonic identity, these instruments now benefit from optimised ergonomics and greater playing versatility thanks to the integration of an amplification system.
With their unique expertise in working with noble materials—brass and ebony—the Henri SELMER Paris teams also rethought, refined, and manufactured several parts of the guitar within the historic Mantes-la-Ville workshop: machine heads, tailpiece, and more.
