Part of the magic of a Festival lies, very often, in the preparations as well—the backstage moments that allow imagination and creativity to take shape and come to life. For several years now, our work with the BFM of Limoges and its branches has enabled high-quality collaborations and regular exchanges. A quality that has not gone unnoticed by audiences, whose participation is now very significant. For this 21st Edition, we are continuing a project initiated upstream by the BFM of Aurence and entrusted to the excellent Syrian cartoonist and caricaturist, Ali HAMRA. From this invitation came the idea of setting future graphic creations to music and presenting them live in space. Accustomed to unconventional exercises and “offbeat” ideas, the talented saxophonist and composer Silvia RIBEIRO FERREIRA immediately agreed to work on this concept: accompanying the caricaturist as his work unfolds and creating this new universe.

The theme of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Miles DAVIS (26 May 1926) would serve as the foundation for connecting our two talents. The programme is structured around his legendary collaborations—particularly with saxophonists—the major stages of his life as a musician and composer, and certain venues where he left his mark on the history of Jazz.

Four periods will be explored during this illustrated concert: the encounters with Charlie PARKER and the Bebop period, John COLTRANE and Modal Jazz, Wayne SHORTER and Jazz Fusion, and finally his close rapport with Kenny GARRETT, opening onto the Funk movement—all of this combined with descriptions of legendary venues such as Café Bohemia and Birdland.
Miles DAVIS constantly reinvented Jazz by surrounding himself with the greatest saxophonists. A rich playground for our two remarkable accomplices.
