Old School Funky Family is first and foremost a brass band that radiates good humor and knows how to share it, both live and on studio albums. Over 15 years of existence, the collective has turned its camaraderie into a signature style that swings on jazz stages across France and Europe. Its recipe: an unstoppable rhythm section and a top-flight saxophone quartet. The eight musicians proudly claim their funk influences, in the style of Maceo Parker. Tracks such as “Bûche,” “Tonus!,” “Cupid’s Funk,” and “Dean Town” prove, if proof were needed, the jazz roots of these groove troublemakers. Their melodic and rhythmic inspirations also dive into the roots of Afrobeat on tracks such as “Kampala” and “Big Blow,” written by Manu Dibango. In all their styles, Old School Funky—or even Funny—Family brings together musicianship, humor, and fantasy… true values, wouldn’t you say?
