For many years now we have been hoping to welcome Ludivine Issambourg on the Festival…

This virtuoso musician with a strong sensibility is more than ever the figure of a pioneer : as of 2010, she would mingle in a fiery swirl jazz, electro, funk and hip-hop by creating a world whose originality has been given further impetus over four albums. “Outlaws”, which paid tribute to great flautist Hubert Laws, was a major step that saw her move towards a dreamlike funk-jazz with an omnipresent groove, highlighting superbly her skills as an instrumentalist and composer. Now at the helm of a very high-level sextet, she offers us “Above the Laws”, a long-awaited follow-up that sublimates her repertoire featuring original compositions with a touch of the funk-jazz tradition of the 70s of the CTI label, while incorporating some carefully selected cover versions. Still passionate about the mixing of the expression techniques of jazz (improvisation, harmony, melodic arrangements …), and those of funk (the dominant groove of the rhythm section, the power of a brass section), Ludivine brings a modern and resolutely up-to-date vision of jazz, inherited from the major Acid Jazz artists (Jamiroquai, Incognito) and instilled for a few years by the new English scenes (Kamaal Williams, Yussef Dayes, Nubiyan Twist …) or the American ones (Snarky Puppy…). Through her freedom, Ludivine Issambourg transcends styles and delivers a universal sound.
