Imagine some Herbie Hancock’s descendants who would have learnt to play funk music in the shadow of the pyramids of Egypt and you get Mokhtar, an instrumental quintet that is not afraid to rhyme disco with camel. At the heart of this group from Rennes, an electric bassoon and a saxophone talk together while a Keyboards/bass/drums trio vary the rhythms, developing cool and contemplative tunes into wild dancing cavalcades. A captivating cocktail of funky fusion jazz and spicy Afrosoul. Created in 2017, this band from Rennes made a noteworthy appearance at the Transmusicales in 2023.
