Cuba is currently experiencing a new revolution : a sonic one! Yissy Garcia y Bandancha may be the best example of that avant-garde combining Cuban classical music with jazz, hip-hop and funk music. The samples adorning the young artist’s compositions, her mastery of tempo and the imagination she displays in her drum solos are just amazing. Yissy Garcia is also a member of the all-female octet Maqueque whose album Oddara has been nominated to the Grammy Awards. Along her career, she has played throughout the world with such people as Dave Matthews, Esperanza Spalding, Joshua Bell, Omara Portuondo and Carlos Varela. Her first album “Light” has just been released under the LABORIE Jazz label.
