A former backing singer for Al Green and Isaac Hays, Toni Green is one of the last members of the legendary Memphis stage. She is back with an album and a whole new band, with Hervé SAMB as musical director. The daughter of a jazzman, singer and trumpeter from Memphis, she has been immersed in gospel and rhythm’n’blues from a very young age. After practicing her scales within the Imported Moods, a torrid vocal group as her city likes them, Toni joins the team of legendary producer Willie Mitchell, alongside Al Green, Ann Peebles, Otis Clay or Syl Johnson, and enters the prestigious Stax label.
She tours a lot with Luther Ingram and the Doobie Brothers before making a name for herself in the studio world of New York City. Toni Green is a highly sought-after backing singer for her mastery of vocal harmonies. Only in the 90s did she decide to take the step, recording several albums under her own name. Toni Green is back in force with the intention to complete what she has begun and to impose herself as the figurehead of a soul that displays its relevance while preserving the legacy of artists like Ann Peebles, Etta James or Sharon Jones.
