For roughly twenty years the Trio, the beating heart of MégaOctet, has been digging its way and creating its own sound. With “Useful Report”—the trio’s 4th recording—the goal is now to draw up a condition of the world. Starting with the melancholy observation that it puts interest ahead of life, superficiality ahead of depth, and appearance ahead of being. The motto of “Useful Report” lies perhaps in these words: to restore life to the centre.

When you write about a trio that combines writing and improvisation, it is a cliché to mention “companionship”, mainly when the musicians have been playing together for 20 years. The listener does not really attend a dialogue between three musicians, but rather a polyphonic monologue. Andy Emler often says that the trio is the soloist, he means a “journey” in which the sound material is constantly moving. Music that IS, in a simplistic and beautiful manner.
